Shirley Elizabeth Carinio's Obituary
Shirley E. (Pavao) Carinio, 87, of Ewa Beach, Hawaiʻi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was born on October 27, 1938, in Pepeekeo, Hawaiʻi. She shared 52 loving years of marriage with her late husband, Lawrence “Larry” Carinio.
Together, Shirley and Larry shared their love of music, performing in their band, Sugar Sugar in Waikīkī. They also had the opportunity to travel to Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, and Korea, performing for United States service members. They recorded several albums, and their song “My Friend” was nominated for a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award — a proud accomplishment that reflected their passion for music and their love for each other.
Shirley enjoyed sewing, making Hawaiian quilts, cooking, scrapbooking, gardening, and most of all, spending time with her loved ones.
She is survived by her children: Garland (the late Alexander) Pelen, Marcelle (Richard) Mattos, and Melody (Douglas) Woodall; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
