Shirley Ann Sax's Obituary
Shirley Ann Madej Sax passed peacefully in her sleep at age 84 on Wednesday, January 11th, 2023 in Spokane, Washington. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Shirley grew up in Southern California before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1959 where she lived for more than 40 years. Married to the love of her life, local radio & TV personality Ted Sax, she raised 3 children and enjoyed a big life illuminated by the local entertainment scene. Shirley filled her days with a deep love for music, nature, beauty, jewelry, cooking, sewing, creative projects and home decorating. Almost 20 years ago, Shirley moved to Spokane, Washington to start a new chapter after her husband's passing. Living near her beloved sister Donna Madej, she fell in love with the area and this fresh start in life. She became an active member of the Red Hat Society, relished the changing of the seasons and in later years was surrounded by the love and care of the team at Emilie Court Assisted Living. Shirley cheered on her grandchildren's every accomplishment and was elated to become a great grandmother just 2 days before she unexpectedly left us.
Shirley leaves behind her loving family, sister Donna Madej and life partner Betty Barber, daughters/son in laws Jan Sage & Robert Dunphy, Elyse Boule & Brad Boule, son Dru Sax, stepsons & family Drake Beil & Linda Gee, Larry Beil & Sharla Beil, grandchildren Billy Sage V, Mark Sage, Nicolas Dunphy, Chloe Boule, Victoria Sax and great grandchild Keone William Hanele Kekali Sage-Lum.
A church service was held earlier at Sacred Heart Parish of Spokane. Graveside service/burial to be held Saturday January 28th at 11am at Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe. Flower leis are welcomed. Private celebration of life to follow.
