Beth Bradford
Norberta was my sister, not foster. She was my mentor, strength, challenging authority, independent in a world not conducive to independence. She stood up for civil and equal rights, marching with King, Lewis. She joined the convent when she was 16, finding joy by becoming a teacher in Hoboken and Camden nj. Teaching recent immigrants primarily from Puerto Rico, with very little and seeking a better life. She took her vow of poverty very seriously. She was instrumental in founding the Hoboken shelter, which was established in the wake of international fires during the gentrification of the city. She advocated for the rights of the poor serving on the city's rent control board and director of the Hoboken shelter for 25 years. Becoming a foster mom to Lingie and Cambridge was one of the greatest joys of her life. She was named jersey journal women of achievement award, peacemaker award and recognized lifetime achievement in 2011 from mayor of Hoboken. Her life of faith, service and compassion continues to inspire all who knew her. She was my sister, I will miss her dearly. Rest in peace. Love you.
