Stan Souza's Obituary
Stan Kamuela Michael Souza, 70, of Kailua, Hawaii, passed away on October 9, 2025.
Stan was a proud St. Louis alumnus who represented Hawai’i on golf’s biggest stages. After winning the state title in 1972, he played collegiately at BYU in Provo, Utah, before turning professional. In 1977, he made history as the first Native Hawaiian from Hawai’i to play in the Masters, a major PGA tour event.
A member of Waialae Country Club since 1989, Stan holds a record number of club championships there. His notable professional appearances include the 2018 US Sr. Open, where he made a hole-in-one during the first round, and his most recent PGA event, the 2021 US Sr. Open in Omaha, Nebraska.
Stan is survived by his wife, Darnette Souza; his children, Charity Guzman, Chandalyn Guzman, Chasetin Guzman, Andrea Kalahiki, and Christopher Souza; seventeen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis Cockett, Candy Coelho, and Mahealani Amerino.
A celebration of Stan's life will be held at Waimanalo Hawaiian Homestead Association Halau, 41-253 Ilauhole Street, Waimanalo on Sunday, January 25, 2025. The services will be from 2PM - 3PM with food to follow.
