Stanley Shimizu's Obituary
It is with great sadness to share the passing of Stanley Shimizu. Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary is honored to be serving the Shimizu family.
Born 82 years ago in Ka`u on Hawaii Island, Stanley Akira Shimizu passed away at home, after a short illness on September 10, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Stanley grew up in Kealakekua and graduated from Konawaena High School in 1957. He was the second son of George and Haruno (Daisy) Shimizu. Preceded in death by his older brother, George and younger sister, Leatrice, he is survived by his older sister, Patsy Jagbandhansingh; wife, Mary; children Cy (Margaret), Eri (Kimble Poon) and Rehn; grandchildren Jeremiah and Zoe Shimizu and Kingston and Vivienne Poon; and cousins, nephews and nieces.
Stanley attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Hawaii. He earned his painting contractor’s license in 1974 and began S. Shimizu Painting in October of that year. He recently earned his EPA designation and was still working during the pandemic. He took pride in his work and trained his folks to take the time to do the job well and right.
He loved boxing, chess, Japanese history, samurai movies, old westerns, and beef. He was a great cook and did most of the cooking for his family. In recent years he traveled with family to Europe and the Orient. Prior to the pandemic, Vegas was an annual stop. He was looking forward to another trip to Japan. He recently took up kanji and could tell you the story behind many of the brush strokes. His last wish was that his grandchildren learn kanji and use his books.
Private services have been held and the family requests no flowers or koden. Donations may be made in his name to the University of Hawaii Cancer Research Center or Malama Ola Hospice.
