Theodore George Liter 's Obituary
Theodore G. Liter, 86, CDR. United States Navy, retired. Ted Passed away in his home in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, February 8th, 2013.
Ted was originally from Vincennes, Indiana and graduated from Lincoln High School as a member of the Class of 1944. Ted joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, being sworn in on February 3rd, 1944, and served his country with distinction and honor through his 30 year career. Over the years Ted was stationed aboard numerous Naval vessels travelling all over the world. Ted was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Ted was assigned at shore duty stations from coast to coast, with overseas tours in the Grand Turk Islands, in Japan and in South Korea. In June, 1961, at the rank of Chief, Ted was selected to be commissioned as a Naval Officer. Having earned many citations and medals Ted retired from the Navy at the Navy Finance Center in Cleveland, Ohio on July 1st, 1974, and subsequently moved to Hawaii where he has enjoyed his retirement.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore F. and Anita C. Liter of Vincennes, his brother, Gene F. Liter of Long Beach, California, his sister, Patricia Schmidt of Vincennes, his infant son Thomas A. Liter, his grandson Brian D. Cox of Jacksonville, Florida and his son-in-law, Arthur T. Williams of Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Ted is survived by his wife, Hanh Liter of Honolulu, her sons; Vincent (Christine) and Michael, and her grandson, David. Ted is also survived by his two daughters; Marian C. “Kitty” Williams of Green Cove Springs, Florida, and Susan C. (Bill) Clemmons of Columbus, Georgia, and two sons; Ted J. Liter of Green Cove Springs, Florida and David C. Liter of Pensacola, Florida. Ted also is survived by three grandchildren; Cheryl (Gary) Wakefield, Joshua (Katie) Clemmons and Chris Clemmons, as well as by five great-grandchildren; Brian, Sebastian & Skylar Wakefield, and Charlotte and Olivia Clemmons.
Visitation at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, Thursday, February 28th, 8 – 9 am
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 9:00am.
Internment will be April 2nd at Barrancas National Military Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
