Valentin Pagtulingan's Obituary
With a heavy heart, our beloved father, Valentin Valdez Pagtulingan, passed away on February 11, 2024, at the age of 86 in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carlina, his children Nilda and Roberto Ballesteros, Jimmy Pagtulingan, Sally and Angelo Mendonca, Lanie and Vincent (deceased) Ching, Nanette and Michael Callorina, 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Valentin was born to parents, Serapio and Norberta on June 1st, 1937, in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. On June 3rd, 1958, he married Carlina Baldovi. Formerly a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, he retired from Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company and later in 1994, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dad was known for his love for his family. His children were his pride and joy, and he dedicated his entire life through hard work, patience, and resilience to provide his family with a comfortable life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, relatives, and friends. Dad lived a very simple life. He loved fishing in the rivers, playing the violin, listening to mariachi bands, playing penny slot machines and football parlays. Dad loves to watch and cheer on his favorite teams, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Las Vegas Aces, and the Vegas Golden Knights. His favorite saying when one of his teams lost a game is "they didn't call me". As a devoted fan, he would never watch other teams on television if his teams were not playing.
Dad was also an avid cook for his family--we will always remember the iconic “eggs and Vienna sausage” and “fried chicken” as no one could replicate his delicious recipes. It was made with so much love and that was his secret ingredient, love. Dad was also known for being a prankster and a comedian. His humor was so infectious that when you are around him, you cannot help but laugh at his jokes. That trait would always put a big smile on our faces and joy in our hearts. He had the knack of pulling on our ears when we were not looking, then pretending that it was not him. Dad gave the best shoulder and neck massages. That line for massages was long. He then would pretend to sleep and snore, letting you know he is done massaging you. Dad had a selfless nature about him as he welcomed anyone with an open heart through his kindness, generosity, compassion, and most importantly, love. We will truly miss Dad, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will forever remain in our hearts.
We love you very much, dad.
