William Lowthian Stern 's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of William Lowthian Stern... He was born to parents, Harry Stern and Elizabeth Green on February 9, 1917 in Honolulu, Hawaii; he was the 2nd of four children. He attended Ali'iolani Elementary School and the Kamehameha School for Boys and graduated in 1936. He was married to Gertrude “Sweetie” Gier on March 18, 1944. He retired after 34 years at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as a machinist and as an Equipment Specialist at the Shipyard Naval Supply Department, was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Kailua Lodge #2230 and also, a past member of Kailua’s Hui Kaikunane. William lived in Kaaawa, Hawaii. He passed away at St. Francis Hospice West in Ewa Beach, Hawaii on August 21, 2013. William is survived by children, Gary (Alexis) Stern, Pauahi (Kalani) Cockett, William (Anita) Stern Jr., Sandra Barney, Gier Kepa (Kanani) Stern, and Anela (Paul) Shimizu; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; service at 9:30 a.m. with inurnment to follow 11:00 a.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family requests that no monetary gifts be given; donations may be made to St. Francis Hospice in his memory, if desired.
