It is with deep respect and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of You Soukaseum, who departed this life on June 12, 2026, in Kailua, Hawaii, at the age of 96.
You Soukaseum was born on August 18, 1929, in Guang Dong, China, to his loving parents, Chu Chai Xu and Yu Qin Zhou. From humble beginnings, he carried with him a strong work ethic, resilience, and a deep commitment to family and community—values that would shape the course of his long and meaningful life.
Seeking opportunity and a brighter future, You eventually made his way to Hawaii, where he built a life rooted in dedication and service. He worked as a farmer, contributing significantly to the local agricultural industry. His labor not only supported his family but also helped sustain the broader farming community. Known for his tireless work and connection to the land, he took great pride in his role and the relationships he cultivated along the way.
Beyond his work in agriculture, You Soukaseum was deeply involved in the community. He believed in the importance of connection, cooperation, and giving back. His presence was a steady and caring influence, and he was respected by those who knew him for his humility, generosity, and quiet strength.
Above all, You was a devoted family man. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Prasong Hsu, Prany Soulatha, and Sana Chang, as well as his three cherished grandchildren, who brought him great joy and pride. His legacy lives on through them and the values he instilled—hard work, compassion, and perseverance.
You Soukaseum’s life was one of dedication, simplicity, and purpose. He leaves behind a lasting imprint on his family, his community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
