Anne Bradbury Sage's Obituary
ANNE BRADBURY SAGE Anne B. Sage, a Kailua resident, devoted her life to helping others as a College English Teacher, Funeral Service Professional, Support Group Founder and Facilitator, Bereavement Educator Mother and Grandmother. For the last 25 years she helped others cope with grief and loss, going above and beyond the call of duty to help grieving families find support, comfort and healing in their darkest hours. An exemplary individual, she provided free memorial services for hundreds of people who had no known or surviving relatives, treating them with dignity and respect. Also, twice monthly, she facilitated the oldest grieving persons support group in the State, The Mattie Lyman Grieving Persons Support Group and volunteered with Hospice Hawaii and St. Francis Hospice since 1985, helping to plan and produce the annual "Holidays, Grief and the Art of Coping" workshop. “Having been in the eye of Grief’s hurricane has been my honor and privilege,” Anne said, “you are invited into the most private room of people’s hearts and get to share some of their most intimate and genuine feelings. I appreciate life most intensely because of my frequent proximity to its end.” After a 6-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Anne Sage died November 12, 2012. She was 69. Her friends and family remember her as “the gold standard.” She was unforgettably graceful, generous and a great conversationalist. She was compassionate, selfless and unconditionally loving. She was the type of person who would welcome a homeless stranger to the table for Thanksgiving and would light up a room with her infectious laugh. She expressed deep gratitude for life even during its most challenging moments. To all those who knew and loved her, she left this message “Grieve in the way that feels right for you. If you feel like crying, you should cry. If you feel like laughing, you should laugh. There’s no timeline and you are the expert in your own grief. It’s all part of something greater and ultimately, you’ll be ok.”She is survived by her mother Evelyn; sister Comfort; brother Bill; three daughters: Cherie, Milika`a and Liz; seven grandchildren: Ashley, Keahi, La’akea, Kamakana, Makamae, Kala’ikumana and Leihiwa; and nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on December 28 at 3:30pm with service at 5:00pm @ Kalama Beach Club, 280 N Kalaheo Ave, Kailua, HI 96734
