I just found out today (July 12, 2015) that beloved Arleen passed to the other side. I was one of her patients. She was a complete joy, full of vim and vigor and always interested in the latest travel adventure. Was so happy when she shared details of her trip to EU. Am still in shock actually and extend my sincerest sympathies to the family including her beloved husband.
Fond memories of Arlene Yap Tsukamoto --
I was extremely saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and classmate, Arlene.
I extend my deepest condolences to her family.
Arlene and I were in several classes together at Kalani High School. I remember that we were partners on a school project that involved the demonstration of making blueberry pancakes in class. Oddly, it wasn’t a home economics class so I can’t remember the relevance of pancakes in that project. I was very nervous during the presentation, but Arlene handled the situation with ease, charm, and confidence.
Together with Melody and Wendell, we were all close at one time and often hung out together. We liked to get together and just talk story. I remember going to her house on a number of occasions. Mrs. Yap was always so nice to us.
We were also in a social club called Silver Linings. Half of the group was from Kalani and the other half were from Punahou. We enjoyed many socials together. Arlene was always smiling and charming, not only with the guys but with everyone. She was a very positive person and brought much joy to everyone she knew.
We lost touch throughout the years, but I saw her at our 20th class reunion and most recently at our 40th class reunion in 2013. We sat at the same table. She looked radiant in a beautiful red dress. She was pleasant and smiling throughout the evening, and she was so helpful organizing the desserts at the dessert table. We all enjoyed seeing each other and reminiscing about high school.
I will remember her fondly.
With warm aloha,
Mrs. Dale (Tanaka) Fujimoto
