Arleen Yap Tsukamoto's Obituary
Arleen Yap Tsukamoto was born on October 21, 1955 to Albert Fook Wo Yap and Doris Wong Yap, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She spent her childhood in Kaimuki and then resided with her own family in Kaneohe, where she passed away on May 21, 2015.
Arleen was a graduate of Kalani High School, and went on to receive her degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She worked as a skilled Dental Hygienist, serving her community in Los Angeles and Honolulu for the past 37 years. She loved helping others and genuinely getting to know her patients, many of whom became long-time friends.
She will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted, generous woman who placed her family and friends above all else, and for her smile that could light up any room. She selflessly spent every day off from work caring for her mother and mother-in-law in their respective care homes, bringing joy to their lives with her visits. She cherished the peaceful early mornings in Kaneohe best. She often left home before the sun rose to walk for miles in Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden or throughout the neighborhood with her dogs, making many friends along her routes.
She is survived and loved by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Eric H. Tsukamoto; son, Jason A. Tsukamoto; daughter, Dr. Jessica K. Tsukamoto; mother, Doris Yap; mother-in-law, Yukie Tsukamoto; brother, Robin Yap; sister, Stephanie Maruyama; four nieces; two nephews; and two beloved dogs.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at Diamond Head Mortuary. Visitation: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., with Service at 5:30 pm.
