DOROTHY Y. YUSI
June 6, 1922 - October 16, 2016
Dorothy Yoshino Yusi was born and raised in Waihee, Maui, and lived most of her adult life in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She was the second youngest child of Miyakichi and Misayo Sawamoto, and had two older sisters Yaeko Hasegawa and Yukimi Kodani, and a younger brother Haruso Joe Sawamoto. After meeting her future husband on Maui during WWII, Dorothy was happily married for fifty years to Anthony C. Yusi who predeceased her in 1996. Dorothy enjoyed raising her children and taking care of her family and home. She was gifted at raising orchids, bonsai, cactus, and many other variety of plants. In her later years, she lived with her oldest son and his family in Manoa. She had a favorite philosophy acquired from her mother, “Minna ga naka yoku shite” which means “Everyone should get along.” She passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the age of 94. Dorothy is survived by her three children, son Anthony H. Yusi & wife Jennifer (Myong), daughter Donna C. Mahoney & husband Mead, and son Michael C. Yusi & wife Merle, grandson David Mahoney & wife Megan, granddaughter Whitney Ann Mahoney, and two great grandchildren Avery and Coleson. Private Service to be held. No flowers or monetary offerings please. Donations may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Kaneohe, Hawaii.
