Dcn. David G. Bruce
Today, we gather to honor the life and service of Officer Earl Kidder, a beloved member of our community who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. As we mourn his passing, we are reminded of the profound sacrifice he made to protect and serve others.
Officer Kidder embodied the highest ideals of law enforcement - courage, integrity, and a deep commitment to justice. He was a person of "deep faith and unswerving devotion to duty," who gave many years of loyal and valuable service to our city. Like the great apostle Saint Boniface, he was a true "Apostle" in his community, tirelessly working to build a "peaceful, just and reconciled society."
In the words of Pope Francis, Officer Kidder's life was "shaped by the desire to be pleasing to the Lord in all things." He followed the example of Christ, the ultimate Servant, who "came to serve and not to be served." Officer Kidder gave the ultimate gift, laying down his life for the sake of others.
As we entrust Officer Kidder's soul to the mercy of God, we pray that his sacrifice will not be in vain. May his life and legacy inspire us all to greater service, compassion, and love for our neighbors. And may the Lord grant comfort and peace to his grieving family and all who mourn his passing.
Officer Earl Kidder, may you rest in the eternal peace of Christ. Your faithful service will never be forgotten. Dcn David Bruce, Chaplains Corp, Hawai’i Sheriffs Department
