I just happened to look up John's name on-line, because his signature is on the back of a photograph my parents had from 1964. (John V.O. Britos). John may have served with my father in the Air Force. The photo is a black and white close-up of President Johnson in a motorcade. Seeing he enjoyed photography, it's safe to say he probably took it.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My father passed many years ago. Having grown up an Air Force "brat", I greatly appreciate John's service to our country, and our veterans. Sending condolences across the miles (and the ocean).
My dearest Hawaiian friend John,
Today I was calling from Australia to wish you a Happy New Year 2014 and possibly sharing some good news that we were possibly planning a trip to visit you for your 72nd birthday. But, unfortunately I heard the saddest news to start off the year. Our friendship spanned over 25 years, since that first meeting at Inn on the Park. You even came to visit us in Australia, and I will never forget that. You were always there when I was arriving and leaving the airport for my annual vacation with my daughters. We had many memorable times, sharing birthdays, beaching, picnics, BBQs and shopping amongst many other wonderful outings. And when my own daughter Chanelle passed away, you were the only one there to console me during my grief. My children loved you very much and you were their Hawaiian Godfather. You are a true friend, and I will never forget you. You are always on my mind.
Lots of love, you are free now, fly with the angels my friend,
Phoenix, (Chanelle) and Faith

John you shared with me what life is and as well as what it should not be. Flying in the glider with you at Waimanallo Civil Air Patrol was one of the highest moments, knowing you were the captain and of course my brother.
Driving to Mokulaia towards Kaina Point on New Years Eve; camping and cooking on open fires at Mikilua in Waianae; singing songs, laughing and making jokes; martial arts; hiking; praying as a family at the 2 story home in Kaneohe; cleaning the drugstore early in the am with Mom and Dad; going out eating local grindz after a swim at the beach; watching you march in the drill team in Honolulu; playing ping pong, tennis, football, even plane trips to Kauai, Maui and Japan. You cared for me and showed me true brotherly love.
Thank you for leaving all of these good memories of you in my heart. Every time I look at Mount Olomana, I will always remember you flying in your glider between the peaks.
I love you very very much and will miss you very very much.
Your brother Earl
