Kenneth Kerino Flores Saromines' Obituary
Kenneth Kerino Flores Saromines, Sr., age 90 of Nanakuli, Hawaii, died on May 28, 2018 at Queen's Medical West Hospital in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. He was born on January 3, 1928 in Lahaina, Maui. He was the third of ten children born to Mariano Pescadero Saromines and Maria Emiliana Flores, both from Cebu, Phillippines. He was drafted into WWII while a student at Farrington High School. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked overseas for a year. He then returned to Hawaii and became a fireman with the Naval Magazine at Lualualei in Nanakuli. In 1970 he became a postal carrier in Nanakuli and retired in 1982. He was married to his sweetheart, Rebecca Leinaala Naki of Nanakuli from July 3, 1954 until her death on March 10, 2000. Married for 46 years, they had five children: Cheryl Ann Chun (Clayton), Bertha Ann Saromines, Kenneth Kerino Flores Saromines, Jr., Alicia Ann Gomes (Patrick) and Ulysses Saromines (Yvonne). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and son (Kenneth Jr.). He is survived by 4 children, 18 grand children and 36 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother (Joseph Saromines of Seattle, Washington) and two sisters (Florence Bray of San Diego, California and Shirley Bautista of Kaneohe, Hawaii).
Kenneth and Rebecca were actively involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Affairs, Nanakuli Chapter. He enjoyed throw net fishing off the shores of Nanakuli and was a master at weaving throw nets taught to him by Tutu Paul Kauka Naki.He lived a full life and will be lovingly missed by his children and grandchildren. He was fondly known as "the mailman from Nanakuli." We celebrate his joyous reunion with his sweetheart "Lana", his beloved son Kenneth and his parents and siblings. Committal Service June 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kaneohe.
