Laurence Uyemura AKA Kealoha's Obituary
Laurence Isami Uyemura, a beloved husband, father, brother, and skilled tradesman, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, surrounded by the familiar comforts of his home in Waiahole Valley Kaneohe, Hawaii. He was 79 years old.
Born on March 6, 1945, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Laurence lived a life rich with experiences, wisdom, and love. His knowledge extended beyond textbooks; he possessed a practical intelligence that made him adept at various trades. Whether it was fixing a leaky faucet or crafting intricate metalwork, Laurence’s hands were always busy, and his mind sharp.
The Ocean and Mountains: Laurence found solace in nature. The ocean’s rhythmic waves and the majestic mountains of Hawaii were his sanctuaries. He split his time between the mountains, where he reveled in their quiet strength, and the ocean, where he cast his fishing lines into the deep blue.
Laurence’s heart belonged to his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 60 years, Helene (Antone). Their journey was a symphony of shared laughter, whispered secrets, and countless sunsets. From their love, four remarkable daughters blossomed, each a testament to their enduring bond: Laurene Keala (Kevin) Palencia, Lauralee Laua'e Uyemura , Loretta Lehua (Dean) Defiesta, and Nadine Talima (Mark) Correa. Their home echoed with laughter, love, and the pitter-patter of little feet. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren to carry on his legacy.
Laurence’s siblings were his lifelong companions. Among them were Stanley Masami (Patricia), Ronnie (Kathy), Miles (Roberta), Chester (Joyce), and Pinky (Howard) Toko. Their shared memories wove a tapestry of family ties that transcended time and distance.
Laurence graduated from Castle High School and continued his education at the community college, specializing in Sheet Metal Training. His hands deftly shaped metal into functional works of art. As a sheet metal journeyman, he left his mark on buildings, bridges, and structures across the islands. His final chapter was spent maintaining the H.I.M.B-Coconut Island Buildings, where his craftsmanship endured.
Laurence’s legacy extended beyond his skills. He was a man of kindness, always ready to lend a hand or share a smile. His faith anchored him, and his actions spoke louder than words. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a family member seeking guidance, Laurence was there. His faith assured him that this earthly journey was but a prelude to eternity.
Farewell, Laurence Isami Uyemura. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew you—a testament to a life well-lived, a spirit unyielding, and a love that transcends time and tides.
