Randy J, Jensen's Obituary
Randy J. Jensen, 77, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 18 at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu where he received highly professional and kind care from all staff. He honorably lived a life defined by service, compassion, deep commitment, and quiet generosity.
Born in Idaho Falls, ID and raised in Alameda, CA, Randy was a graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi School of Nursing and worked as an Advance Practice Psychiatric Nurse in both civilian and military life. His distinguished professional career included pioneering emergency psychiatric care, managing family readiness for military deployment, and working with veteran and active duty service members with PTSD.
He proudly served in the United States Navy as a corpsman during the Vietnam War and later in the United States Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He loved to announce with pride that he worked hard to move from rank of Ensign Jensen to Colonel Jensen. In his retirement, he would often talk about how hard he worked to achieve the ‘brass ring’ of success.
Randy had a deep love of his adopted home of Hawai’i, where he lived since arriving at 18 years old as a Marianist novitiate at Chaminade College. He was most proud of the family and friends that graced his life. A lifelong learner, he never stopped asking questions about the world around him.
He enjoyed humor, traveling, baseball, eating out, catching up with former colleagues, genealogy, researching on his iPad, and working out three times a week through the VA Gerofit program. He was known for his quick, dry humor, and generous spirit. He was an avid animal lover, especially devoted to his cats.
He is predeceased by parents, Lois and Donald Jensen and brother, Jim Jensen. Survived by beloved family: wife, Kathy Krammer; daughter, Kimberly Davis (Mike);
grandchildren Cecily and Maddie; and beloved cats, Quilligan, Ellkie and Jerusha. In addition, his hanai family: Takaya Otaki, Betty Lam Frederick, Daryl and Suki Frederick.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and aloha to Dr. Daniel Fishberg, Dr. Ryon Nakasone, the Queen’s Cancer Center, interfaith chaplaincy team, and the Tower 9 Diamond Head staff for their professionalism and compassionate care.
Memorial service to be held Diamond Head Mortuary on Wednesday April 29, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Private burial with military honors to be held at a later date at Hawai’i State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Randy’s name to the Maui Humane Society (https://mauihumanesociety.org) or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (https://bestfriends.org).
