The family and friends of Richard Joseph “Bud” Lamb are mourning his passing on August 10, 2014. He passed peacefully with family and friends at his side. He was predeceased by his parents James and Mary Lamb and his siblings Katherine Schouten, Charles Lamb, James Lamb and Ruth Reindollar. Bud also leaves behind his nephew and caregiver Chuck Reindollar(Beverly) and his nieces Pat Patel, Betty Walker and Jean Griffith. In addition he leaves his grandnephew Sean(Carol) and grandniece Tina(Ron) and six great nephews Jordyn, Kody, Nick, Nolan and Chance and great niece Bailey.
Bud saw life through rose colored glasses and saw everyone he met as the “nicest” person and so “good looking”. Upon meeting Bud you were instantly drawn to him and thought of him as a friend. It is rare to find a person in 96 years that did not raise his voice in anger, or speak negatively about anyone. Young and old loved him because he made you feel like the most important person in his life.
Bud served proudly in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer on the USS Pelias during World War II. He arrived in Pearl Harbor December 14, one week after the attack on Dec 7, 1941. This began his life long love on Hawaii and it’s diverse culture and people.
Bud was a fireman in San Anselmo, California before finally moving to Kailua in 1966. He lived with his sister Ruth Reindollar for over 60 years. They were inseparable as and had a true devotion to each other. He worked at Sea Life Park, Hardware Hawaii and volunteered at the Falls of Clyde, St Anthony’s Church and Castle Hospital. He remarked that his 14 years volunteering at Castle Hospital were one of his greatest joys.
The family of Richard Lamb would like to thank his doctors and staff that gave him exceptional treatment. Also the staff of the Hawaii Kai Retirement Center assisted living and Denise Bilodeau and her staff that went above and beyond to provide caring and comfort over 3 years to him. St Francis Hospice was also very compassionate and made his remaining days very peaceful.
There will be a celebration of Bud’s life Saturday September 6th at St Anthony’s Church Kailua. There will be a viewing at 9am with a mass at 10am and a reception at the Parish Hall to follow. Burial will be at Punchbowl Memorial Cemetery at 8:30am September 8.
