Rose Young Tam-Hoy's Obituary
Rose Young Lokelani Lum Tam-Hoy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 18,1923. She was the daughter of Agnes Kahoe & Lum Sui. Rose was 88 years of age and passed away at Queen's Medical Center peacefully on October 13th,2011.Rose was a proud graduate of St. Andrews Priory, class of 1941 and remained an active alumnus and church member.Auntie Loke, as her dear friends called her, shared the love of Hawaiianculture and her heritage through quilting she learned from her mother at an early age. She carried on the legacy by teaching at various locations throughout the islands that included: The Hilton Hawaiian Village, Kaimuki Library, The Bishop Museum, and one of her favorite places, Hotel Hana Maui. She shared her passion and talent with so many and was well known for her hand made Hawaiian quilts and pillows.Rose lead a very active life and belonged to nearly 30 clubs andorganizations including Hale O Nä Ali'i O Hawai'i as dedicated life member for over 45 years, Nä Wähine Hui O Kamehameha (Women's Auxiliary of the Royal Order of Kamehameha), The Ahahui Ka'ahumanu, the Daughters of Hawai'i, the Ahahui Ölelo Hawai'i, and the Kuini Pi'olani Hawaiian Civic Club just to name a few. She loved her friends and her social calendar was always full. This is what kept her going and was the fuel to her fire!Rose had a zest for life, she taught us not to worry about what others think and to just live life to the fullest. She was an inspiration to all. Rose made you feel so special and was always interested in how you were doing, not herself. She was never afraid of telling you like it is, but also telling you just how much she loved you. Auntie Loke made new friends everywhere she would go and just had a magnetic personality that lit up any room! We will all miss her affectionate hugs and kisses, her energy that woke us up at all times of the night, and most importantly her love that she gave so strongly to each and every one of us.Rose Young Lokelani Lum Tam-Hoy is survived by her sister Florence (Gilbert)Lum Minn, her children Harold Jr (Arlene) Tam-Hoy, Agnes Makalii, Barry (Joani) Tam-Hoy, and Bonnie Tam-Hoy.
