William Winchell Burgher Jr's Obituary
Celebrating the Life of William Winchell Burger, Jr., who passed away in Kaneohe, Hawaii on May 19, 2014. He was born on June 23, 1938 in Staten Island, New York to Eleanor Lillian Bentson and William Winchell Burgher, Sr.; William was the oldest of four children.
He attended Roxbury High School, Trinity Bible College, University of Hawaii, majoring in Aeronautical Technology. When at Trinity Bible College in Chicago, he was a teacher in religious lessons. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Upon graduation he began his career as an Aircraft Mechanic with United Airlines; prior to that working for Aloha Airlines. He retired in 1982 after serving for 16 years. After retirement, he was involved in fishing, boating, traveling and church.
He also served in the United Sates Air Force from 1956 to 1962; while serving he attained the rank of A2C and received an Honorable Discharge ending with two years in the Reserve. After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling and camping. He lived in Richmond, Staten Island, New York, Flanders, New Jersey, Anaheim, California, Cleveland, Ohio and Kaneohe, Hawaii. He married Sarah P. Kapiko on March 7, 1959.
He was a total family man; very responsible, meticulous in work and finances who enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling and camping. He enjoyed listening to Gospel and Country Western Music. He was brought up in a very religious background; his parents, grandparents and all his family before were very religious. He was a member of Kaneohe Missionary Baptist Church and AHA Ohana Assembly.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Kapiko Burgher; sons, William W. Burgher, III, Gary D.K. (Gayle), Timothy A.K. Burgher and Sheldon E.K. (Taeko) Burgher; daughters, Jessica S.L.M. (William) Beznoska, Donna M.M. (Anthony) Ilagan and Carol L. L. Burgher; brother, Warren David Burgher, Sr. (Martha) (of Flanders, New Jersey); 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews. Among his special friends were Rita & Larry Lichtenbery, Patty & Ernie NcDole, Emerson Uyesato, and Pastor Ernest (Leina) Begley.
Visitation to his funeral service will be held from 3:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2014 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary; celebration of life service to begin at 4:30 p.m. Scattering of ashes at a later date. Family requesting casual attire and no flowers please.
